Allison and Dave Gillaspie – July 2026

Q: When did you first join R4R and how did you learn about us?

Allison: I joined Runnin’ for Rhett in April 2026. I saw the Blue Crew a few times in Elk Grove, and wanted to learn more about it. Dave joined just a few days later.

Q: What have you enjoyed most about being a part of the Runnin’ for Rhett Blue Crew?

Allison: I have enjoyed getting to know a lot of new interesting people who share a love of getting out in the fresh air and exercising.

Dave: I’ve enjoyed looking forward to structured times to walk with so many friendly people.

Q: How do you like to spend your free time? Any hobbies of note?

Allison: I enjoy walking our dog, gardening, watching SF Giants baseball games, yoga, drinking coffee, sourdough baking, and reading.

Dave: I like staying busy. If I’m not working on a home project or helping a friend at their house, I’m hiking, paddle boarding or mountain biking generally in the Tahoe area. I swim for my main exercise year-round at InShape Elk Grove.

Q: We have just a few couples that are actively participating in Runnin’ for Rhett activities together. How have you enjoyed sharing this experience together?

Allison: During our 26 years of marriage, Dave and I have always liked spending time together outdoors hiking and exploring. Joining R4R has been a fantastic opportunity to plan time to exercise together. We enjoy the Saturday morning walks with the Blue Crew followed by coffee and lively conversation with the group at Panera. Our first race will be the Urban Cow in September.

Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Allison: I have Italian citizenship.

Dave: After college, I moved abroad and travelled internationally for 3 years. One place I lived was on a beach resort that catered to Japanese tourists in Guam. One of my jobs was giving away the brides at their destination wedding. I had a lot of practice walking down the aisle before meeting Allison.

Q: What has been your proudest moment since being a part of the R4R family?

Allison: My proudest moment since joining was volunteering for the Run Because You Can race in April. I was so inspired to see all of the students with their families running together and celebrating the completion of the six-week fitness program that R4R provides for schools. Also, I was proud that I showed up on my first day with the Walk and Woof Crew. I was nervous like it was the first day of school! I walked up with our Yellow Lab Hazel, and everyone was so welcoming and kind.

Dave: I really enjoyed volunteering at the ‘Run Because You Can’ race and looking forward to helping out again next year. The reason is simple – seeing so many happy, positive and polite kids.

Q: Which do you prefer: dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate or fruity sweets? What is your favorite sweet treat?

Allison: I prefer dark chocolate, and my favorite treat is the brownie sundae at Leatherby’s.

Dave: Milk Chocolate. Adding peanut butter makes it so much better – Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are the best.

Q: If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?

Allison: I would be a tomato from our vegetable garden because I’m Sicilian!

Dave: Yams with a little butter, because they are so tasty.

Q: How would you describe your Runnin’ for Rhett experience to a child?

Allison: Runnin’ for Rhett is a fun group that promotes exercise and healthy living. You can meet new friends, learn about Rhett, and get outside and run! You can set fitness goals and challenge yourself. It feels great to try new things and Move into Life.

Dave: It is a great opportunity to meet new friends and get moving outside.
