Bill Mullen – October 2022

Q: When did you first join R4R and how did you learn about us?

A: My wife Gail ran into Angela Spease one morning on the Elk Grove walking trail near our home in February of 2021. She invited her to join the group the following Saturday morning. Angela then followed up on Gail’s Facebook page about the invite. Once I saw the post, I suggested that Gail go check it out. Gail said she would go only if I went with her; we’ve been attending the Saturday morning Meetups ever since!

Q: Describe yourself in 25 words or less.

A: Opportunistic, lead by example, competitive, and mostly quiet. When running in a group I’m normally in the back as I never leave anyone behind.

Q: It is wonderful that you and your wife, Gail, are both part of our Blue Crew. What do you enjoy most about the two of you Movin’ Into Life?

A: While we are Movin’ into Life at different paces, we have been doing it together the entire time.  We started our journey by walking together for the first few months, now we are running with various groups and both making great friends along the way.

Q: If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?

A: Cauliflower. Why? It’s healthy, low in carbs, and makes a great pizza crust.

Q: How do you like to spend your free time? Any hobbies of note?

A: Free time is a premium for me. But when I do find the time, it seems that I find myself on some sort of running activity with others in the same baby blue t-shirt that I’m wearing. Recently I’ve been sighted at Pickleball courts as well.

Q: What has been your proudest moment since being a part of the R4R family?

A: December 4, 2022. Yes, I’m aware that day is in the future at the time of this being written, but that will be the day that I accomplish my year-long goal of achieving nine personal records (PR’s) including my first marathon.  Running across each finish line ahead of my previous race time is satisfying, but it’s the baby blue shirt that I am wearing representing all of us who are Movin’ Into Life, and the face of Rhett reminds me to keep persevering towards goals that I’ve never even attempted, and accomplishing along the way.

Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

A: In the theme of Movin’ Into Life, I can say that most people wouldn’t know that I have been awarded a varsity letter in high school from two different schools (Valley High School and Laguna Creek High School) for Football and Golf.

Q: How would you describe your Runnin’ for Rhett experience to a child?

A: It’s like recess for adults. I get to spend time with friends, run/walk and play games (like Pickleball!), and know it’s all for a great cause.
