Emmy McCampbell – July 2025

Q: When did you first join R4R and how did you learn about us?

A: I joined R4R in 2022. My friend, Joye, brought me to a Zumba class, and everyone was so kind and welcoming, they convinced me to join.

Q: What’s your very favorite “Movin’ into Life” activity?

A: My favorite thing about R4R is all the different options to “Move into Life.” I love starting my Wednesdays strong by watching the sun rise with the Early Risers. I feel rejuvenated after Yoga with Lauren. I’ve also been enjoying the recent dance workshops. Gina is doing an amazing job of finding the various studios in the area for us to learn different styles of dance. Thanks, Gina!

Q: You co-led the “Ballet for Strength and Mobility” class in June. What role has ballet played in your life? Why should someone include dance as part of their activities?

A: I’ve tried various dance styles throughout my life and was surprised to find that ballet is my favorite. It’s slow, controlled, graceful, and set to beautiful music. Ballet feeds my soul. I get lost in the music, and it’s not until I stop that I realize I am sweaty, out of breath, and with fatigued muscles. Ballet is a great activity to add to your workout because it focuses on improving posture, flexibility, strength, and balance: all things that would benefit a runner or anyone else.

Q: What has been your most unusual or interesting job?

A: I was in the Entertainment Costuming department at Disneyland. My job was to prep the costumes for the park’s parades and help with quick changes during the stage shows. My favorite projects to work on were the Electrical Parade and “Aladdin”.

Q: How has being a part of Runnin’ for Rhett made a difference in your life?

A: Since joining, I have been very consistent with my workouts and found a community that I enjoy being a part of. I am definitely in better shape than when I joined.

Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

A: Hmmm, I’m not sure there is anything. I am an open book, and our meetups provide a lot of time for me to get to know the Blue Crew and you all to get to know me…probably more than you ever wanted to. 🤣 I’ll go with: I’m a very organized hoarder.

Q: What has been your proudest moment since being a part of the R4R family?

A: In 2017, I suffered from a back injury that significantly impacted my ability to work out. For years, my recovery was a “1 step forward, 2 steps back” situation. I missed being able to run, but every time I did, my back would go out again. The Blue Crew provided a safe space for me, never pressuring me to be more, while motivating me by sharing their accomplishments. I learned how to start slow and improve my form. In 2023, I ran my first 5k in a long time. It was the best I had felt running since I was in high school, making me love it again.

Q: If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?

A: Potato. I’m starchy, versatile, and covered in brown spots.

Q: How would you describe your Runnin’ for Rhett experience to a child?

A: R4R is a great place to try new things, meet super nice and fun people, and build habits that will allow you to get the most out of life.
