Jeni Shipley – August 2026

Q: When did you first join R4R and how did you learn about us?

A: I joined Runnin’ for Rhett in January of 2023! I was looking for community and a way to get back into running in a more structured way. I had been looking for a group for a while and saw a post on Instagram about training for Shamrock – the timing was perfect and right before the winter kick-off!

Q: During this year’s Trailbound Together Hike/Ruck Series, you attended every hiking event.  What do you enjoy most about hiking and why should others give it a try?

A: Hiking and being outdoors is my happy place! I truly feel at peace in that environment – all the anxiety and stress I deal with in my day-to-day life just fade when I’m out on the trail. I haven’t hiked as much as I have wanted to in the last few years so this series was so timely and the build up to backpacking was the cherry on top since it’s been a goal of mine to get into backpacking! Getting to hike with the R4R community has been amazing. This community is so special and welcoming. And I’ve learned so much! This is truly a special group.

Q: What has been your most unusual or interesting job??

A: I got to work at Six Flags for a summer! A family friend opened up a BBQ restaurant in the park – it was so much fun! Only downside was the uniform…khaki pants and a bright yellow shirt! Smelled like fried food at the end of the day but so worth it.

Q: How do you like to spend your free time? Any hobbies of note?

A: I really enjoy being outdoors! Definitely hiking, camping, paddle boarding, swimming, etc. I like to travel, I’m always down for an adventure. I also enjoy reading and playing video games.

Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

A: One of my goals is to get my pilot’s license and I’ve already taken flying lessons!

Q: What has been your proudest moment since being a part of the R4R family?

A: Going backpacking! It’s something I have dreamed of getting into but didn’t know how. Hiking in with my pack on my back was such a cool experience!

Q: If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?

A: An onion! Jeni’s are like onions…onions have layers (Shrek reference). I do think onion is accurate though! I think on first approach I can come off shy or quiet but I’m pretty outgoing.

Q: How would you describe your Runnin’ for Rhett experience to a child?

A: Imagine having a big group of friends who are always excited to go on adventures with you and celebrate when you try something new. That’s Running for Rhett.
