Jenn Ramirez – September 2023

Q: When did you first join R4R and how did you learn about us?

A: I had just begun running at the end of October and was looking for a running group where I could get some tips on proper training as I had a couple of recent injuries. I joined Runnin’ for Rhett in January 2023 after my boys trained for the December 2022 MaraFunRun at their school and discovered they had an Adult Fitness program.

Q: Describe yourself in 25 words or less.

A: I am a mother, wife, and grandmother who is healthy, happy, and content exploring my new lease on life being active, trying new activities, and challenging myself to continue to grow and reach new heights.

Q: We get to see your kids at some of our events. What impact do you believe this has on them?

A: My kids are learning that fitness can be fun and have been more active this year than we have ever been as a family. Because of my involvement with R4R, the boys have participated in a few races, gone on several hikes, played pickleball, tried Zumba and yoga, and their newest passion of paddle boarding and kayaking.

Q: How has being a part of Runnin’ for Rhett made a difference in your life?

A: R4R has been such a blessing in my life. I joined originally to get tips on running, however, I received that but so much more. It’s a community that’s inclusive of all fitness levels, backgrounds, and fitness goals. Everyone is so welcoming and supportive and really feels like a second family. I am so inspired by everyone’s journey and feel such joy watching our crew crush their personal goals and achieve milestones they never thought possible. R4R has been the missing puzzle piece I was looking for and have built genuine friendships along the way.

Q: What has been your most unusual or interesting job?

A: I loved being a lifeguard as a teenager and teaching swim lessons. It was such a proud moment when you could see the confidence on a child’s face when they were able to reach their goal and graduate to the next level.

Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

A: I am a proud grandma to 2 granddaughters and just welcomed a new grandson at the end of August 2023.

Q: What has been your proudest moment since being a part of the R4R family?

A: I am really proud of how far I’ve come on my running journey in less than a year. When I began running with Randy (Rhett’s dad) in January, he said I would be running a 10k before long. I told him he was crazy, why would I ever want to run farther than a 5k?! Needless to say, he was right and I ended up changing my registration for Shamrock in March to a 10k and am starting to train to do my first half marathon by the end of the year.

Q: If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?

A: I would be a beet, vibrant in color, sweet and tender.

Q: How would you describe your Runnin’ for Rhett experience to a child?

A: Fitness should be fun and enjoyable! Runnin’ for Rhett is like a family. They are here to support you in your goals and cheer you on. They help motivate and uplift you when you need it.
