Jesse Nix – June 2025

Q: When did you first join R4R, and how did you learn about us?

A: I joined the Runnin’ for Rhett Board and Adult Fitness Group in November 2021 after having worked alongside Runnin’ for Rhett for a few years on the California Brewers Festival Event.

Q: As a father of two little ones, why is “Movin’ into Life” important to you?

A: I got away from living an active lifestyle after I stopped playing sports in college. Over the years that followed, I saw and felt negative effects in my life. I want to set an example for my kids that staying active is important at all ages.

Q: You just ran with your son for his first 5k at our Run Because You Can race. How was this experience for you and your son?

A: It was incredible to witness his perseverance. We had trained a bit leading up to the race, but at 5 years old, the 3.1 miles on race day would be the longest he had ever run. He got a cramp about halfway in but refused to stop moving. I am so proud of him for taking on hard things and sticking with them.

Q: How do you like to spend your free time? Any hobbies of note?

A: Lately, I spend a lot of my free time coaching soccer, flag football, and baseball. It has become a real passion! I have also been inspired by Runnin’ for Rhett to tackle some running events. I had never run as much as a 5k prior to joining Runnin’ for Rhett in my life, and in the past year, I completed the Urban Cow half marathon in just over two hours.

Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

A: I am a classic film buff. My Dad introduced me to many classic films when I was younger, and I enjoyed that; it has also made me a valuable addition to a trivia team.

Q: What has been your proudest moment since being a part of the R4R family?

A: Without a doubt, having my son Clayton participate in the MaraFUNrun and Run Because You Can 5k events. I look forward to making these events a family tradition and including my three-year-old daughter Penny in a few years.

Q: If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?

A: I would say a Beet. I am a bit shy at first, but once you get acquainted with me, you might realize I’m not too bad, and you may actually enjoy me!

Q: How would you describe your Runnin’ for Rhett experience to a child?

A: Doing hard things makes you more confident, mentally and physically healthier, and better able to face new challenges when they come up. Runnin’ For Rhett allows you to grow and to do it with others, which makes it easier and more fun!
