Joye Bothun – May 2023

Q: When did you first join R4R and how did you learn about us?

A: I first joined officially in March 2022. I learned about the adult fitness program from Bill Rutgers and attended a recovery walk as his guest in January 2022.

Q: You and your teenage daughters are very active and have participated in a number of R4R activities. As a mother, what do you feel is the greatest benefit of keeping your kids “Movin’ into Life”?

A: The greatest benefit to me is to instill a love of physical activity and learning at a young age. Life-long habits that keep them healthy, happy, confident, and fun.

Q: What do your daughters think of being a part of Runnin’ for Rhett?

A: They all enjoy it for different reasons. My oldest likes it to stay in shape, the younger 2 like the different activities they get to do and try. They’re happy we joined even though they don’t always want to come (teenagers…). 😂

Q: What Runnin’ for Rhett activity do you most enjoy doing with your daughters?

A: I think it would have been boot camp but they haven’t been able to make that so pickleball right now. Snowshoeing was up there too.

Q: What has been your most unusual or interesting job?

A: Most interesting was probably being a hostess at a Japanese restaurant when I was in high school. It was a family-owned business and between the family dynamics, behind-the-scenes stuff, customers, and staff, it was sometimes fun, sometimes stressful, but always interesting.

Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

A: My first and only language was Cantonese until I turned 4.

Q: What has been your proudest moment since being a part of the R4R family?

A: So many things, but probably taking 10 minutes off my 5K at Shamrock’n from 2022 to 2023 tops the list.

Q: If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?

A: Yam leaves because they are super nutritious, high in antioxidants, tasty, and yield yams! You can eat the whole plant and nothing goes to waste, plus they’re colorful and bright.

Q: How would you describe your Runnin’ for Rhett experience to a child?

A: You get to see old friends, and meet new ones, while you play together almost every day of the week. You learn new games and everyone is super nice. It’s the best group ever!
