Q: When did you first join R4R and how did you learn about us?
A: I first joined R4R in the winter of 2011. A good friend of mine knew I ran and she had just joined. She said it was a great way to spend some time together and meet new people. I thought it was going to just be for the training season but little did I know it was the beginning of the most impactful community I have been a part of.
Q: What’s your very favorite “Moving into Life” activity?
A: I can’t pick one. I would say anything that gets me outside and near nature. Living so close to the bike trail, I like to be out there running, walking, biking, or paddle boarding.
Q: As a teacher and Youth Fitness coach, how have you seen Runnin’ for Rhett impact the students in your program?
A: This has been the greatest activity that my campus has been a part of. Students are able to participate in a free activity that helps them to get healthier as well as be a part of a special community. This has also been a fun way for parents to get involved and create memories with their children doing something active and outside.
Q: How do you like to spend your free time? Any hobbies of note?
A: My favorite way to spend my free time is with friends doing things outside. Part of being a member or R4R I have added so many outside hobbies that make me happy – running, paddle boarding, hiking, pickleball, hiking, snowshoeing.
Q: As a long time member of Runnin’ for Rhett, how has it impacted your life?
A: Runnin’ for Rhett has had a very significant impact on my life. I have found a community that is open, accepting, fun and healthy. As a result, I have become all of those things too. R4R has allowed me to get to know my community better, explore areas of Northern California and given me the confidence to say yes, even when I am not sure.
Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?
A: I love being around people, but I also need my alone time. If you find me on the trails with my headphones in, I am needing to fill my cup with some alone time.
Q: What has been your proudest moment since being a part of the R4R family?
A: There have been so many. One of my favorite’s was when I was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award in 2017. Volunteering, no matter what event, feels like one big hangout with fun people so I always love to give back to our community,
Q: If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?
A: A carrot – it is so universal. You can eat it raw or cooked, it pairs well with ranch, hummus, peanut butter, you can eat it as an add on or a main dish.
Q: How would you describe your Runnin’ for Rhett experience to a child?
A: I would tell them that being a part of something in honor of Rhett has helped to build my confidence, introduce me to some amazing people and have experiences that make life lasting memories.
