Lisa Au – July 2021

Q: When did you first join R4R and how do you learn about R4R?

A: I officially joined R4R in January of 2012. I went to a couple of trainings during the summer of 2011, but I quit because it was too hot to run in the summer. I don’t like the heat. I still complain about the heat, but I’ve learned to run through it. Bob Daly told me about the training program. I used to think he was crazy for running 13.1 miles for fun! I worked in his office at the time and heard him talk a lot about R4R.

Q: How did you get into trail running and what do you like most about it?

A: My running buddy Tracey Maher transitioned from road to trails before I did. She kept telling me how much fun it was, how beautiful the trails are and how trails are much easier on your body. She inspired me to explore trails. I was getting bored of road running and I was ready to explore the mountains. I love being out in the forest with amazing views. It never gets old and there are so many options near us!

Q: How do you like to spend your free time? Any hobbies of note?

A: I love to bake when I have free time and it’s not 100 degrees out. I love being outdoors. When I’m not running, I like to take the kayak or paddleboard out to the lake.

Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

A: I have a twin sister, and we look nothing alike.

Q: What has been your most unusual or interesting job?

A: I worked on a vegetable farm throughout my childhood.

Q: What has been your proudest moment since being a part of the R4R family?

A: The money we raise for the Youth Fitness Program and being able to give away shoes to the kids.

Q: How would you describe your Runnin’ for Rhett experience to a child?

A: R4R has changed my life forever! I couldn’t run a mile before I joined R4R. R4R has taught how important it is to stay active and eat healthy. I have also made some really good friends.
