Q: How did you learn about us and what made you decide to join Runnin’ for Rhett?
A: I discovered Runnin’ for Rhett via Sacramento Running Association’s website, as I was looking for the 5K associated with CIM. I wanted to know more about the organization and found through the R4R website that there was a Meetup group. The timing was perfect as it was just ahead of Running Week and was pleasantly surprised to see other events outside of running.
Q: As a new member, you have already been to a variety of Runnin’ for Rhett activities. What would you say to a new member to help them have the best Runnin’ for Rhett experience?
A: This is the most welcoming, open, fun, and safe group of humans you could hope for, all with the common goal of staying active while supporting a great cause.
Q: What’s been your very favorite “Movin’ into Life” activity so far and why?
A: Oh, every event has been wonderful, so it’s hard to pick one! I love the Zumba classes, recovery workshop series (where I learned how to use my foam roller), evening walks/runs, social events like the Holiday Lights walk, and joining the blue crew at races. There is a common thread in each type of activity – the genuine enthusiasm, spirit, and camaraderie.
Q: How do you like to spend your free time? Any hobbies of note?
A: I’ve been a dancer most of my life and am in pursuit of finding a studio that caters to adults. I also enjoy making things, which is odd since I was never known to be crafty before COVID. After a successful run of making fun face masks, I branched out into creating semi-precious stone bracelets for a fundraiser this year, and recently expanded my repertoire into earrings.
Q: What has been your most unusual or interesting job?
A: This goes waaaaayyy back, but I worked for an attorney service as a process server in San Diego while in college. I didn’t tell my parents since I knew my mom would worry, but I lived to tell the story!
Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?
A: I was a painfully shy, only child. My family moved a lot when I was growing up, so it was challenging to make new friends. But when I was 11, I started doing theater with my parents. That was where I found a new confidence that brought me out of my shell.
Q: If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?
A: Watermelon radish. Unassuming on the outside, but colorful inside. They have a slightly sweet, slightly peppery flavor that isn’t too overwhelming, and their versatility allows them to participate in a variety of different preparations. They offer nourishing and enriching physical benefits, and blend well with other vegetables.
Q: How would you describe your Runnin’ for Rhett experience to a child?
A: Runnin’ for Rhett is a fun group of people where you can make friends, enjoy doing new, exciting things together, and discover you are stronger than you thought!
