Rick Devera – February 2024

Q: When did you first join R4R and how did you learn about us?

A: I joined R4R in 2019. Bill Rutgers mentioned it to me, and I joined.

Q: Has being physically active always been a part of your life? How has it changed since joining us?

A: I have been physically active since I was in high school, and I did track and field, and hurdles. But when I joined R4R it changed my life.

Q: What have you enjoyed most about being a part of Runnin’ for Rhett?

A: What I have enjoyed most about being a part of R4R is that the group is my second family of energetic, warm, and caring people. No one is left behind.

Q: Have you experienced a challenge that you believe your involvement with R4R helped you to overcome? If so, please briefly tell us about it.

A: The challenge that I believe my involvement with R4R helped me overcome is achieving 5k and 10k races. I even had knee surgery, and I still feel the pain a little bit, but I manage it, and happily continue running/walking because of the beautiful R4R people.

Q: What has been your most unusual or interesting job?

A: My most interesting job was when I worked in the hospital, and I encountered a lot of different people with interesting characteristics. I felt so good about this job because I helped a lot of people.

Q: How do you like to spend your free time? Any hobbies of note?

A: I love to spend my free time with my family watching movies, doing karaoke once in a while, doing my word search puzzle, and my favorite is gardening.

Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

A: Something most people don’t know about me is I was timid but I overcame it because of R4R.

Q: If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?

A: If I was a vegetable I would be SPINACH because it is a superfood that has a high anti-oxidant value. (And we all know that Rick is also SUPER!)

Q: How would you describe your Runnin’ for Rhett experience to a child?

A: I would describe my R4R experience to a child as the beginning of their journey of having good health and exercise and good exposure to the community.
