Eric Perryman – June 2023

Q: When did you first join R4R and how did you learn about us?

A: Initially, I heard of Runnin’ for Rhett through a co-worker who had been encouraging my girlfriend (now wife) to join. I had just taken a work assignment in Phoenix, and my girlfriend decided to join and train for a half-marathon to fill the time.  I participated in events when I was home and joined officially once my 18-month assignment was over in 2013.  My first training run was 8 miles with the 4:1 group led by Todd Larsen; it was a struggle, and I needed a nap afterward.  My first race was the 2013 Urban Cow Half-Marathon.

Q: As a father of three little ones, it can’t be easy to get them ready and out of the house on a Saturday morning to join the Sacramento group for the 8:00 am run/walk.  What motivates you to bring the kids out on Saturdays?

A: Neither my wife nor I had the healthiest upbringings.  It is important for both of us to lead them by example when it comes to staying active and eating food that fuels our bodies properly.  We want socialization and physical activity to be an integral part of their lives.

Q: What do you see as the greatest benefit(s) to your children of exposing them to our Movin’ Into Life activities?

A: There are countless benefits to staying active and starting at an early age.  I want physical activity to be an integral part of their lives and something they enjoy.  If they can find joy in a run, bike ride, swim, game of pickleball, or golf, and a friend to enjoy it with, then it will never be “exercise.”

Q: What has been your most unusual or interesting job?

A: I suppose my current one.  I work for PG&E and am part of the team working to underground the power lines.  This is one of the largest civil utility projects in our country’s history and will directly improve the safety of our local communities.  I took this job to work on projects in my own backyard to have an impact on my own community and to be able to show my kids the work dad does each day.

Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

A: I don’t like ice cream. Fortunately, Baskin-Robins has Rainbow Sherbet.

Q: What has been your proudest moment since being a part of the R4R family?

A: Running the kids 1k at the Super Sunday Run in 2019 with my then-two-year-old son, Porter.  He was the youngest runner by far and finished dead last, but never gave up.  Also crushing my PRs with new ones.

Q: If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?

A: Lettuce.  So anytime I want, I can make like a tree and leaf (haha).

Q: How would you describe your Runnin’ for Rhett experience to a child?A: Finding some of my best friends that enjoy playing the same games I do.
