Joanne Trahin – May 2026

Q: When did you first join R4R and how did you learn about us?

A: In October of 2023 Christie asked us to go with her to the winter kickoff event at Finnegan’s downtown. It was there that we heard Rhett’s story for the first time. After a windy walk around, we decided to join as a family.

Q: What’s your very favorite “Movin’ into Life” activity?

A: My running days are behind me now so walking it is! I have had many memorable conversations walking at the meetups. Walking along the river is my favorite. You never know what wildlife you will see. We’ve seen fish, ducks, geese, rabbits, squirrels, chickens, turkeys, goats and an occasional cat.

Q: As a mother of three, including our very own Christie Trahin, can you share a special Mother’s Day experience?

A: The best part about any holiday is that we all get together. Sometimes it’s a pool party and BBQ and sometimes it’s dinner and a movie or game night. No matter what the holiday is, lots of laughs and good times occur.

Q: How do you like to spend your free time? Any hobbies of note?

A: Reading, scrapbooking and journaling are my main hobbies along with cruising. There is nothing better than a good book on the deck of a ship at sea with a breeze and the smell of the ocean.

Q: What was your favorite subject in school?

A: English and math.

Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

A: I am an Air Force brat, so we traveled a lot. I graduated high school in Turkey.

Q: What has been your proudest moment since being a part of the R4R family?

A: It always amazes me that there are so many people in our community that know about R4R. My R4R sweatshirts are my favorites so I always wear them. I hear someone say “Go Rhett” all the time which makes me smile. One time I was getting my hair done and the lady next to me told me that her granddaughter had just received her first medal at a R4R event and she was so excited that she couldn’t wait to get another one. I had just volunteered and passed out medals to the finishers. I don’t know if I was the one who gave that little girl her medal, but I was proud to hear how happy it made her to get it.

Q: If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why?

A: A potato. I’m plain and simple. I need a push to try new things much like adding a new seasoning or cooking a potato differently for a new experience.

Q: How would you describe your Runnin’ for Rhett experience to a child?

A: R4R is a great way to make new friends and get some exercise. When you exercise with friends, it’s fun and you can forget that you are actually working out. So get out there and move your body!
